Councillor Vacancies – Co-option Opportunity
St Stephen in Brannel Parish Council currently has vacancies for Parish Councillors, to be filled by co-option. If you are passionate about your community and want to make a difference, we encourage you to apply.
What does a Parish Councillor do?
Councillors work together to set the policy direction of the Council, attend regular meetings, make decisions on local services, and represent the interests of residents. Full induction and ongoing training are provided to all new councillors.
Who can apply?
To be eligible for co-option, you must:
- Be a British subject, or a citizen of the Commonwealth or the European Union;
- Be 18 years of age or over on the day of your nomination;
- Meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Be registered as a local government elector for the parish;
- Have occupied land or premises in the parish for the last 12 months;
- Have your principal or only place of work in the parish for the last 12 months;
- Have resided in the parish or within 3 miles of it for the last 12 months.
Certain disqualifications apply (e.g. bankruptcy, recent imprisonment, or holding paid office with the Council). Full details are on the eligibility form.

- Complete the Co-option Application Form
- Complete the Co-option Eligibility Form
- Return all documents to the Clerk at the address or email below by Monday 15th December 2025

What happens next?
- You will be invited to attend a council meeting to introduce yourself and explain your interest.
- Councillors will consider all applications in public session and vote to fill the vacancies.
- Successful candidates will receive a full induction and support.

St Stephen-in-Brannel (Eglosstefan yn Branel) is a civil parish and village in Cornwall. The Parish is on the southern edge of Cornwall’s china clay district.
The Parish Council serves the villages of Coombe, Foxhole, High Street, Lanjeth, Nanpean, St Stephen, Treviscoe and Whitemoor.
