Known for her community spirit and hands‑on involvement, Cllr Anne Hartshorne has become a familiar and much‑appreciated presence in parish life.
Having spent most of her career in administrative roles, Anne enjoyed a long and fulfilling chapter working for British Airways. She originally intended for it to be her final job, though she stayed far longer than she ever expected, retiring at the age of 69.
Originally from Cardiff, Anne moved to the parish 12 years ago. Keen to put down roots and contribute to her new community, she became a parish councillor in May last year. She describes herself as “still green” but is relishing the opportunity to learn from more experienced councillors. She currently serves on both the Human Resources and Planning & Licencing Committees.
Anne has always been deeply involved in community life. She ran the Cubs for 10 years and supported the Scouts, and since moving to the parish she has thrown herself into local activities. She is a trustee of Whitemoor Village Hall, a member of the Whitemoor Carnival Committee and a regular helper at the coffee mornings held in Whitemoor Chapel. Her commitment to community involvement is clear in everything she does.
Outside her voluntary work, Anne enjoys a wide range of hobbies including arts and crafts, knitting, sewing, and gardening. She is also an enthusiastic traveller. Her adventures have taken her all over the world, including a memorable trip to Japan for her 80th birthday and a long‑awaited visit to St Petersburg.
Anne became a parish councillor to try something new, give back to the community, and meet new people. After moving from Cardiff, she knew she wanted to get involved but wasn’t sure how until the parish council offered the perfect path. So far, she says, it’s been a rewarding journey, and she continues to learn every day.
