It has come to the Parish Council’s attention that street litter bins are being misused for the disposal of household and commercial waste.
Dumping waste in street bins is ILLEGAL and classed as fly-tipping. Offenders may face fines and enforcement action.
Fly-tipping is not only unacceptable, but will now result in the removal and disposal costs, which will ultimately be covered by residents through their council tax.
Street bins are provided for public litter only and should not be used for:
❌Household rubbish, including black bags or recycling
❌Commercial or business waste
❌Bulky waste, furniture, or large items
❌Hazardous materials, such as batteries or paint
What you should do instead:
✅You should place your waste in your designated bin for collection
✅Businesses must arrange appropriate commercial waste disposal
✅Use local recycling centres for large or bulky waste: https://www.cornwall.gov.uk/tipbooking
Anyone found to be disposing of household or business waste in public bins will be reported meaning that they may be subject to enforcement action or fines under waste management regulations.
Thank you for helping keep our community clean.
