Cllr Mike Berryman was born and raised in the area, starting life at Slip Cottages before moving to St Stephen, where he has spent most of his life. Describing himself as “local born and bred”, Mike has a deep-rooted connection to the community.
Mike trained in agricultural engineering and later built a career in garden machinery. His work brought him into contact with a wide variety of people from all walks of life and took him to many different places, experiences that have informed and enriched his perspective as a parish councillor.

His involvement with the parish council began after he took an active interest in the neighbourhood plan for the parish. Recognising the importance of local decision-making and community planning, Mike joined the parish council and has been committed to serving the community ever since.

He currently serves on the Planning and Licensing Committee, the Property and Services Committee, and the Finance and Policy Committee, where he continues to play an active role in shaping decisions for the benefit of the parish.

Mike particularly enjoys attending parish council meetings and taking walks around the parish, meeting residents and keeping in touch with the community on a personal level.

Mike has a long-standing dedication to local community initiatives. He has served on the committee for the recreation ground, been heavily involved with the youth club from its inception in 1963 until its closure and even took on the role of chair to ensure its survival. He has also contributed to the local football club, demonstrating his lifelong commitment to youth and sport in the parish.

A keen footballer, Mike represented Cornwall as a goalkeeper for the under-15s and under-18s teams and has played the sport throughout his life. His love for the game and for community involvement go hand in hand, reflecting his passion for fostering strong local connections and supporting opportunities for young people.
