British Transport Police Press Release

July 31st 2020

British Transport Police concerned over trespass incidents at St Dennis.

British Transport Police is issuing a warning after several recent incidents of trespass in the Cornwall area.

The incidents have occurred on and near to the railway between St Dennis and Treviscoe.

Several incidents have been reported to police at both locations since May of multiple people trespassing in the area.

Embedded Inspector Darren Burridge from British Transport Police said: “We are continuing to receive reports of people using the railway line as a short cut walking route in these areas.

“These reports are deeply concerning – trespassing on any railway line is extremely dangerous and not only could people face prosecution, but they are risking their lives.

“We’ve increased our patrols in the area and we are working hard to educate the local community on the dangers of trespass. We’re also working closely with our partners at Network Rail and other local authorities who are looking to improve access issues, safety and signage in the area.

“With schools currently closed, I would strongly urge parents to check where their teenagers are going and remind them of the extreme dangers posed by the railway.

“Our priority is to keep people safe – please help us by staying off the tracks.”

Anyone who spots someone trespassing is asked to get in touch by sending a text to 61016 or call 0800 40 50 40. Always ring 999 in an emergency.
