Cornwall Energy Recovery Centre Operational Update

December 12th 2018

The Parish Council have received the following e-mail. Any queries, should be directed to Suez.

“Dear All,

As you will be aware we experienced a fault with the energy recovery centre’s steam turbine rotor in late June. As this is a specialist item of equipment, it was returned to the manufacturer’s workshop for repairs, which were carried out under warranty. The turbine was returned to site and reinstalled in late September.

During inspections following the reinstallation of the turbine, we identified some issues with and then subsequently some damage to surrounding pipework.  Due to the high precision nature of the engineering involved, this damaged section of pipework needs to be repaired before the turbine can be re-commissioned.  The replacement parts are being manufactured and will be delivered in January.

The facility continues to process Cornwall’s residual waste, diverting it from landfill.  We typically receive higher amounts of household waste into mid-January and once we have dealt with this seasonal peak, we will shut down the facility in order to fit the replacement parts and re-commission the turbine.  Subject to confirming the availability of the turbine manufacturer’s team of specialist engineers for the re-commissioning process, we anticipate being in a position to re-commission the turbine and recommence supplying energy to the national grid in February 2019.

If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards

Natalie Chard
