  1. not another store, please !

I really cannot believe that the parish council is considering allowing the Church Rooms to be converted into a convenience store – really, another convenience store ?? The building could be put to far better community and parish uses. Once renovated – by means of mainly grant funding it appears – the building should be designated for community events for the whole Parish – it could be the focal point for all activities within the Parish – this alone would help re-vitalise Nanpean. Another convenience store would not reach out beyond Nanpean, there is certainly already enough choice for food shopping within the Parish as a whole. The Parish Councillors should be striving to take this one off opportunity and create something bold and innovative, not just another boring old conveneince store. There are certainly lots of examples throughout the UK where similiar buildings have been successfuly utilised for local people to provide all manner of activities, clubs, societies, events, exhibitions etc etc. – the space that the Church Rooms offers will provide for an endless list of opportunitie to promote the area to a much wider catchment.
